Since then, 1.4 million units have rolled off Ford assembly lines. Now the second generation Ka has made its debut, and is expected to continune its predecessor's success. An affordable small car, with perky good looks inside and out. Built on the same platform as Fiat's retro 500, the Ford Ka is a completely different kind of car. Prices start at 9,750 Euros. compare it! Skoda Fabia vs. Mini ClubmanDo the Mini Cooper Clubman and Skoda's Fabia manage to combine stylish design with practical utility? Both cars are dependably safe and offer strong performance. The Clubman has more standard features that are available only as options on the Fabia, e.g. an electronic stability program (which BMW calls "DSC"). But the Clubman also costs considerably more.picture it! Fuel cells - how practical is hydrogen?Automakers have long been promising a bright future for hydrogen-powered cars. Now Mercedes has unveiled a new experimental model, the F-Cell. A production model of the car is scheduled to go on sale in 2010. But why are hydrogen-powered cars taking so long to mature? We tested the car to find out.examine it! Recycling: old cars resurrectedIt used to cost money to have a car scrapped in Germany. Today Anna Scheider gets 70 euros for her old Golf. It's a veritable treasure trove of recyclable parts. All the dismantled parts are listed in a pan-European Internet catalog called "EU Cars". Anyone looking for spare parts can click online and see what's available. More than 50 German scrap yards sell parts via the site, which means fewer cars end up being crushed and scrapped.vintage! Aston Martin DB5Aston Martin, DB5. A classic British sports car. Alex Lancashire from London dreamed of buying this car in his youth. The reason was the sleek design and of course, James Bond. Today Alex is the proud owner of a DB5. During the week he drives his kids to school in it. But every spare moment he has he's out on the track soaking up the atmosphere of racing. | Recycle for reward in Maple GroveTue, 02 Dec 2008 07:04:16 -0800 by mnsunvideoWould you recycle more if you didn't have to sort your refuse and if someone offered you $300 a year in groceries to boot?Maple Grove residents will be the first to answer that question when a new recycling scheme kicks off in February. The program is a cooperative effort between Allied Waste and RecycleBank, along with dozens of retail reward partners. Here's how it works:Residents who use Allied Waste will be given a specially coded receptacle into which they can place recyclables of all sorts. No need to separate paper from plastic.Weekly, the company will empty the bin and record the weight of the contributions. That number will be entered into a computer. The more you recycle, the more points you receive, the more rewards you can redeem. The bin is equipped with large wheels and maneuvers easily from location to location. For anyone old enough to remember Gold Bond Stamps or Green Stamps, the program has a familiar ring.As barriers are removed toward recycling, more residents will participate and that's better for the environment, according to Maple Grove mayor Mark Steffenson."And the reward points are for stores where we all want to shop," Stephenson added. He was a keynote speaker at a the Twin Cities-wide kickoff of the program Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Mall of America in Bloomington."It's important for our city to tell its residents we've done something for you that's going to deliver $250 to $300 back into your pocket each year," Steffenson told the gathering of about 100 people.Allied Waste customers are automatically signed up to participate.Among the reward partners are Cub Foods, Target, CVS Pharmacy and a number of restaurants.RecycleB ank is already operating in 15 states, but has just begun its efforts in Minnesota, according to Margaret Bensfield, a spokesman for the company.Key to the program is making recycling understandable, easy and rewarding so more people will feel free to participate. Studies conducted across the United States reveal that the messy and time-consuming process of sorting recyclables is a major stumbling block. While nearly everyone seems to recognize the need to recycle, almost no one wants to contend with multiple bins or barrels."Wherever RecycleBank has come into the market, the volume of recycling has gone up considerably," said Rich Hirstein, a spokesman for Allied Waste Services of Minnesota. His company services about 150,000 residents in the state. Hirstein said Allied plans to offer the recycling program to all of its customers before the close of 2009.Between now and February, specially marked receptacles will be manufactured specifically for Maple Grove. The first ones should roll off delivery trucks in early February 2009.Eden Prairie is the only other Twin Cities Metro community to take an interest in the program to this point, but Hirstein said he expects the success stories from Maple Grove to boost interest.(Reporting, video, narration and post-production by Paul Wahl, Sun Newspapers.)
