The record must be prepared in order to play correctly and I thought to myself that people must have a way to maintain 78 rpm records. So I cleaned the records and rub a little Oil of O'Lay on the records to provide a nice sheen to the record. Low and behold the records played cleaner. I researched this more and found reference to a cleaning technique that would cleaning and lubricate the records. (vinegar and sewing machine oil) I found this made sense as with my player piano refinishing research I did in high school stated shellac shrinks with age, This is why Shellac furniture needs to be waxed regularly to maintain a nice finish to avoid cracks. But I have not be able to find any such product as I surmised the records companies must had had a formula that keep records from sticking to the presses and enhance the shine of records and perhaps even lubricate the needle while playing. I plan only to do this once to track the record, to see is any degradation result from a little skin moisturizers.
