The mosfet is an irf530 with 100 volts and 14A max specs. You can use any n channel mosfet, depending on your application. By the way im using this for my scooter honda dio. | 555 Flyback driver(35 volts 6 amps in)Sun, 23 Nov 2008 20:36:06 -0800 by triggerhappy77707Just 35 volts from a rewound mot(rectified,smooth ed) into my 555 flyback driver. Yesterday, i had the wire from the pin 3 of the 555 short to the either drain or source(not sure, wasn't paying attention) due to a loose wire. It killed my 555 and the mosfet died because since the 555 blew, it kept the mosfet on and blew it, and another one, because i did not know the 555 died at the time. The sparks could be compared with a low powered ZVS driver. This driver is very inefficient, within a few seconds the heatsink is warm, regardless of its size. This driver is ugly, but this is how it is going to stay, i do not care for looks on this, i just want to be able to access it all easily, and being opened like this i do not need a fan for lower powers. At max, it is pushing 210 watts on higher frequency, and lower maybe 250. For the heat created, it is not even worth making if you are looking for efficiency. However, it is simple and cheap, and can push more voltage than the ZVS at lower voltages and powers. Of course, the overall wattage is much less.The resonant cap is i think .12uf tantalum(WAYYYY to physically small and not good for the current and frequency).I connected a small 1 watt radio to the pin 5 via 100nf capacitor, but the sound is much clearer in reality, and even better now. I didn't select the station too well, so it had a high pitched wine to it.The frequency is above the audible range, so it is actually pretty clear. If you are looking to make an audio modulated flyback driver, this is pretty good, if you pump enough power in. Look at jmartis's videos if you want one that sounds very good, or timetec's is also very good.
