A video of a scenic flight around the Auckland Central Business District and the Hauraki Gulf Islands (Rangitoto, Waiheke) on Sunday 30th November 2008.Departed Ardmore (NZAR), flew up to Musick Point via Whitford. Then, up the harbour to the Harbour Bridge and Auckland CBD. We went around the Sky Tower a couple of times, then out and around One Tree Hill. After that, we headed out into the gulf overhead Rangitoto Island and then tracked along the northern coast of Waiheke Island before heading home to Ardmore.Total flight time was 1.0 hours.Aircraft was a Cessna 172, ZK-DJU.Music is 'Always on my Mind' by Tiki Taane.ps. Before anyone says anything, I'm not taxiing too fast... the video is running at double speed during the taxi and take-off sequences!

If Earth Could Speak: Rise of Water

If Earth Could Speak: Rise of WaterBy Kirk Hylanhttp://ifearthc ouldspeak.wordpress. comThe impending rise in the levels of the oceans cannot be denied. It is going to happen. To what degree is unknown. However there does not seem to be any plan being presented as to how to address this advent. Some have mentioned building sea-walls to protect cities from being flooded. Realistically, this is a futile attempt and without economic feasibility. I propose that we consume as much of the ocean water as physically possible on a global basis. However, Im not just suggesting that we drink all of that water. Below I propose a series of actions and positive results that can be realized if we act in unison as a species. Presently, the Chinese city of Beijing is sinking one inch per year due to massive ground water extraction. The wildlife in Africa is threatened more by the drying out of the continent than by poaching. If we globally stop using the precious natural fresh water that is drying out the water tables in virtually every nation then there is an opportunity for us to restore those natural fresh sources and still have all the water that we could possibly require. We may not be able to completely equalize the amount of the actual rise in sea levels with our consumption but I believe that we can put a significant dent in it at the very least. Please follow the thought process from the beginning to each and every stage until the concept is fully vetted.

If Earth Could Speak: Salt
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 15:11:01 -0800 by IfEarthCouldSpeak

If Earth Could Speak: SaltBy Kirk Hylanhttp://ifearthc ouldpseak.wordpress. comWhat else can we do with the by-product of the desalinization process salt? There are several applications that we can use for the salt. Here are just a few ideas : 1. 19.5 million persons who reside on the lower portion of the continent of Africa are dying because a severe lack of iodized salt in their diet. 2. Salt has some of the best insulation properties of any material on Earth. Possibly via the employment of chemical engineering or nanotechnology can the corrosive properties or the tendency to dissolve when wet be controlled. If so, then we could possibly use the salt as a component in the use of concrete, albeit with less heat absorption. Another contributor to global temperature rise is the heat radiated by all of the concrete structures that have been constructed. If we use salt, with its magnificent insulating properties, as a component of concrete then maybe we can reduce the heat radiated off by concrete. Additionally, we could stop strip-mining to a large degree if salt can successfully be applied to this use. 3. Roads and freeways. If salt can be successfully applied to concrete then it follow that it could also be successfully applied to asphalt.Im sure that we can come up with more applications.

If Earth Could Speak: Economic Stimulus
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 15:03:08 -0800 by IfEarthCouldSpeak

If Earth Could Speak: Economic StimulusBy Kirk Hylanhttp://ifearthc ouldpseak.wordpress. comThe benefits of adopting this blueprint will positively impact every nation economically. Jobs are created providing an instantaneous financial stimulus. The positive effects are compounded and will facilitate a multiplier effect on economic growth. Desalinization Plants will need to be built, requiring architects, engineers and trades people. These plants will require raw materials that will drive those industries. Pipelines and aqueducts will need to be constructed. Land will need to be irrigated and farmed creating jobs in both agriculture and the manufacture of agriculture equipment and machinery. There are a significant number of idle manufacturing/produc tion assets sitting idle. There are entire workforces either idled for some reason or simply unable to find work. We can take a town like Flint Michigan and put it back to work for the farming industry, instead of being a casualty of the auto industry. Multiply this by the global population and you can see that an untold number of jobs are created worldwide. Imagine all of the poverty-level people that would love to be able to obtain work. The creation of a worldwide network of aqueducts could instantly pull our global economy out of its current downward trend. We as a global society need to go to work on economic rationales that have value. Building this aqueduct infrastructure and pumping desalinized water to the far reaches of the world now will prevent the catastrophic financial effect on every nation once the oceans rise.

If Earth Could Speak: Fresh Water
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 15:00:14 -0800 by IfEarthCouldSpeak

If Earth Could Speak: Fresh WaterBy Kirk Hylanhttp://ifearthc ouldpseak.wordpress. comFresh water can still be very useful to us however we should never direct its use for human or animal consumption. We should keep the dams that we have built merely for the production of electric power. Allow gravity to benefit our existence by spinning turbines for power generation wherever possible. If we allow the fresh water to fill creeks, streams and rivers as it used to then it will restore the habitats that enhance the food chain. The most important effect will be to start to restore the water tapped from the water tables. If we do so then we take another step toward avoiding possible Dust Bowl events.

If Earth Could Speak: Conclusion
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 14:56:18 -0800 by IfEarthCouldSpeak

If Earth Could Speak: ConclusionBy Kirk Hylanhttp://ifearthc ouldpseak.wordpress. comThis entire document was catalyzed by continual sensory input from television, radio, newspapers and the Internet regarding the delicate state of the planet and the profound issues surrounding the advent of Global Warming. The final episode for me was a radio advertisement telling me that we need to make sure that we arent wasteful with our water or it will run out. Our problem is that we have too much water. I have been researching and looking for solutions. To date, I have not located a single solution that takes the entire broad stroke approach to a global situation. This is no longer a local, state or national issue. This is our survival as a species that Im talking about in this document.Water may engulf many of our cities worldwide. We need to consume this water to have any possibility of preserving the existence of those cities. This proposal solves the issues surrounding food shortages forever. It will feed the entire population of the Earth many times over. We would be insulated from droughts. It provides for a surplus of fuel. This proposal provides for multiple fuel sources that can never be in short supply again. This proposal may be our only chance at saving The Gulf Stream. We need the massive quantities of salt to protect The Gulf Stream with the hope of avoiding the possibility of the advanced arrival of another Ice Age. All of these major issues are resolved and a natural cleansing mechanism for healing the Earths atmosphere is delivered at the same time. Ive not heard of an economically attainable mechanism that can be deployed to cleanse the atmosphere of the damage that we have already incurred. This proposal will do so. I actually can no longer see an option whereby we cannot execute on this proposal. If we do not then the borders of all of the continents may change due to the swelling of the oceans, the majority of the most populated areas may end up under water or ice, thousands of species may vanish forever and possibly we do as well eventually. This proposal creates economic prosperity in almost every way. Not one aspect of this proposal is a financial burden to our GNP without an equalizing financial benefit. In fact, it jump starts our economy in so many ways. The important concept here is that it is economically attainable. This entire blueprint puts our planet on a road to markets based on resources that have value instead of the derivative-model that we have embraced to our detriment recently. Many of the social and financial structures that I am proposing will significantly reshape social constructs that are now proving to no longer be in our collective best interests. We would flourish financially like we do during a wartime economy except that this time we are fighting to save ourselves at this point in time. Our economy is based on resources. I submit that we reallocate our resources globally. Spread the water around and we get food and fuel to spread around as well. I offer this proposal as my gift to my fellow humans in the hope that something positive can come out of this. If this document sparks dialogue surrounding these issues that we are facing then I will applaud those that offer their input. Now is not the time to sit on the sidelines. We are in a race against time. The suggestions in this proposal will change the way we live temporarily so that we wont have to change the way we live permanently. This is the only proposal that addresses everything that is rapidly upon us. We are simply out of time. If we debate this for another 10-15 years before getting started then it may be too late.I submit this challenge to all who read this:By what other means are we going to save ourselves from this rapidly approaching tipping point with our global environment issues?Kirk Hylan

If Earth Could Speak: Quick Summary
Tue, 02 Dec 2008 14:54:28 -0800 by IfEarthCouldSpeak

If Earth Could Speak: Quick SummaryBy Kirk Hylanhttp://ifearthc ouldpseak.wordpress. comThe resources that we need to solve this puzzle are already present. Take the water from the ocean, desalinize it, create agricultural areas globally, plant all types of plants and let the planet heal itself naturally and via the quickest method possible. If we do this then we will have achieved the following : 1. Use massive amounts of oceanic water to significantly impact the impending global rise in sea levels 2. Set the stage for accelerated natural cleansing of the countless tons of carbon dioxide and other particulate matter in the atmosphere 3. Solved the advent of food shortages permanently on a global basis 4. Create an untold number of jobs worldwide 5. Reverse the process of draining the water tables worldwide 6. Insulation from drought 7. Create additional jobs to manufacture farm machinery 8. Provide housing for those that have lost their homes due to the real estate mortgage crisisThere are countless positive aspects that can be derived by turning our planet back into a planet that appears green from space instead of having substantial brown dry arid areas. However, in summary, our objective is to thwart the swelling of the oceans on our populated land masses and remove the existing tons of particulate matter that is a central factor in the accelerated global temperature rise caused by the Greenhouse Effect. Even if the oceans do not rise appreciably we are still solving food shortages, creating countless jobs and industries, eliminating our dependence on oil and coal companies, and insulating the planets population from the negative effects of droughts by treating the symptoms (effects) of Global Warming.
