There also is a similar segment of the historic highway south of Miami, Okla.The "Sidewalk Highway" was built in 1922, before Route 66 was certified. The local highway department reputedly had only enough money for a narrow roadway. You can still see the original concrete curbs on each side in long stretches of these segments, if they're not covered with gravel. Road crews now scrape each side of the road's shoulders to make it passable for local traffic.The overpass, by the way, goes over the Interstate 44 turnpike.Music is "Slim Jenkins' Place," by Booker T. and the MGs.
