| Sonarluminescence-nuclear fusion?Thu, 25 Dec 2008 20:08:00 -0800 by DarkJedi8xSonoluminescence can occur when a sound wave of sufficient intensity induces a gaseous cavity within a liquid to collapse quickly. This cavity may take the form of a pre-existing bubble, or may be generated through a process known as cavitation. Sonoluminescence in the laboratory can be made to be stable, so that a single bubble will expand and collapse over and over again in a periodic fashion, emitting a burst of light each time it collapses. For this to occur, a standing acoustic wave is set up within a liquid, and the bubble will sit at a pressure anti-node of the standing wave. The frequencies of resonance depend on the shape and size of the container in which the bubble is contained. | Hydrosonic Pump ProjectWed, 24 Dec 2008 13:35:38 -0800 by andrewsengineeringThis is the experimental hydrosonic pump project i've been working on. Thisis the second test run. The pump was built completely from scratch andI machined all the parts. The motor is 5HP 3 phase 1725 RPM and the pulleyratio setup spins the rotor at around 3795 RPM. The resulted heatingof the water is not bad considering the rotor is 6.4" diameter and higherspeeds were in theory needed to get any cavitation with this size rotor. This is the first build. | SupercavitationMon, 24 Nov 2008 14:52:59 -0800 by zanta24not sure it is cavitation, but i think it is. The projectile was launched with a 955J coilgun, so no air was "injected" inside. All but 1 clip, the barrel exit stays under water. Related: supercavitation |

| Bathtub Derby Trial 4Wed, 05 Nov 2008 01:24:50 -0800 by sidewzEnglefield Bathtub Derby 2008 entry.4hp Yamaha 4hp on a Sorento bath. Motor has been moved down and back to reduce cavitation, and planing strakes added. Now all it needs is a paint job to make it slip through the water better.
