| John Lennon - ImagineSat, 22 Nov 2008 03:21:31 -0800 by digitalcast"Imagine" is a song by John Lennon, which appears on his 1971 album, Imagine. It was released as a single in the same year, and reached number three in the U.S. Billboard charts, and number six in the United Kingdom. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine voted "Imagine" the third greatest song of all time. Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter said, "In many countries around the world ? my wife and I have visited about 125 countries ? you hear John Lennon's song 'Imagine' used almost equally with national anthems."In the book Lennon in America, written by Geoffrey Giuliano, Lennon commented that the song was "an anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic song, but because it's sugar-coated, it's accepted."[3] Lennon also commented, it's "virtually the Communist Manifesto, even though I am not particularly a communist and I do not belong to any movement."The lyrics were thought to be inspired by Lennon's hopes for a more peaceful world, though their origins are not known for certain. In 1963 Lennon penned the lyrics to "I'll Get You" with an opening verse of, "Imagine I'm in love with you, it's easy cause I know." The first verse of "Imagine" would seem to be a reworking of this. But the song's refrain may have been partly inspired by Yoko Ono's poetry, in reaction to her childhood in Japan during World War II. According to The Guardian, primordial versions of the song's refrain can be found in her 1965 book Grapefruit, where she penned lines such as, "imagine a raindrop" and "imagine the clouds dripping."In 1999, BMI named "Imagine" as one of the top 100 most performed songs of the 20th century. Lennon's original recording of "Imagine" appears 23rd in the list of best-selling singles in the UK issued in 2002. In November 2004, ranked 3rd on Rolling Stone's list of the RS 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. On 1 January 2005, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation named "Imagine" the greatest song in the past 100 years, as voted by listeners, on the show 50 Tracks. The song ranked #30 on the Recording Industry Association of America's list of the 365 Songs of the Century bearing the most historical significance. Virgin Radio conducted a UK favourite song survey in December 2005, and Imagine was voted into top spot, beating Beatles songs "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be" (Coincidentally both predominantly written by Paul McCartney, although credited Lennon/McCartney). The song was voted the greatest song of all time by the Nine Network's 20 to 1 countdown show in Australia on September 12, 2006. | Grenade Attack in ThailandSat, 22 Nov 2008 01:06:36 -0800 by NTDTVCHAN: Deadly protests continue in Thailand. An anti-government television program shows pictures of protesters injured in a grenade attack that some say killed one person and wounded 23. Police reportedly threw grenades in among protesters gathered outside the Thai prime minister's office. Let's take a look at this story. STORY: The footage was broadcast by Asia Satellite TV, an anti-government television station, and it shows protesters injured in a grenade attack from the morning of November 20. The Prime Minister's office Compound, where it took place, has been occupied by demonstrators since August. The anti-government television station has been broadcasting live 24-hours-a-day from the occupied government compound since protesters from the People Alliance for Democracy (PAD) group invaded the Government House. The leader of a long-running anti-government street protest, Sondhi Limthongkul, accused the government of having a direct hand in firing the deadly grenade. The dead man has been identified as a 48-year-old, with shrapnel wounds to the chest. 23 others were wounded--the most serious assault on the three month sit-in. Police have little information about the incident because sentries from the anti-government group PAD have barred them from entering the barricaded Government House compound. The PAD is a loose coalition of royalist businessmen and academics trying to prevent former leader Thaksin Shinawatra from returning to power. Thaksin was ousted in a 2006 coup. Its campaign started in late 2005 and contributed heavily to the coup. The group has paralyzed government decision-making and increased the threat of recession in Thailand. Thailand's political temperature has been relatively calm for the last two weeks, but analysts had said the lull would be temporary, so the attack comes as no surprise. Related: ntd ntdtv news | |

| Teen Commits Suicide Live On WebcamFri, 21 Nov 2008 23:44:27 -0800 by BlackTubeChannelFlorida -- Abraham Biggs decided to kill himself and broadcast it live online. When he told his online "buddies" about what he planned to do, some of them actually encouraged him to kill himself. Supposedly, the moderator for this one of the websites where Biggs discussed his planned suicide, called Biggs an attention whore. Sadly, Biggs, 19-years-old, took some pills and laid down to die as viewers watched. The camera was still rolling when the police kicked in his door.
