AIR FORCE CREATES COUNTER BLOG RESPONSE PLAN TO QUELL ONLINE DISSENT
Fri, 09 Jan 2009 17:17:55 -0800 by bill122460

The US Air Force has announced a “counter-blog” response plan aimed at fielding and reacting to material from bloggers who have “negative opinions about the US government and the Air Force.”The plan, created by the public affairs arm of the Air Force, includes a detailed twelve-point “counter blogging” flow-chart that dictates how officers should tackle what are described as “trolls,” “ragers,” and “misguided” online writers.Wired blog Danger Room summarizes how the chart lays out a range of possible responses to a blog post:Airmen can offer a “factual and well-cited response [that] is not factually erroneous, a rant or rage, bashing or negative in nature.” They can “let the poststand — no response.” Or they can “fix the facts,” offering up fresh perspective. No matter what, the chart says, airmen should “disclose your Air Force connection,” “respond in a tone that reflects high on the rich heritage of the Air Force,” and “focus on the most-used sites related to the Air Force.”Another option offered by the chart is to “monitor the site for relevant information and comments” while reporting back to HQ.Of course, the type of bloggers that Air Force officers will be able to respond to may be limited due to the fact that the Air Force actively blocks access to just about any independent site with the word “blog” in its web address. No doubt the Web Posting Response Assessment plan is an offshoot of the Air Force’s “national cybersecurity initiative“, an ongoing $11 million project which is also seeking the capability to hack into, fully control and even destroy any form of computer or network in existence.

16 Bit Lolitas & Raz Nitzan Feat. Jennifer Horne - Feel I'm Falling
Fri, 09 Jan 2009 16:05:38 -0800 by PlaygroundProd

16 Bit Lolitas & Raz Nitzan Feat. Jennifer Horne - Feel I'm FallingEven by my standards this is an odd release... Peter and I did the instrumental track more than a year before this track was actually signed to CR2... Took us initially less than three hours to produce it... We just didn't think anyone would wanna sign this unmixable track but they did! Then we got Adrian involved for the vocals and we recorded the vocals with Simon but CR2 didn't feel it so we rerecorded it with Jennifer Horne. This time they loved it! The record went on to become an Essential new tune on Pete Tong's show and been played for two months but on the week of release the distributor went bankrupt and that was the end of it...Not really because the music's still here!

Israel Steps Ups Its Strikes In Beit Hanoun This Night
Fri, 09 Jan 2009 13:38:36 -0800 by ArchivesAlgeriennes

Raw video from Gaza this evening : Israeli forces stepped up its strikes in Beit Hanoun located in the northern Gaza Strip, as the aggression on Gaza entered its 14th day on Friday. There was a day when we worried about the "Arab masses" the millions of "ordinary" Arabs on the streets of Cairo, Kuwait, Amman, Beirut and their reaction to the constant bloodbaths in the Middle East. Could Anwar Sadat restrain the anger of his people? And now after three decades of Hosni Mubarak can Mubarak (or "La Vache Qui Rit", as he is still called in Cairo) restrain the anger of his people? The answer, of course, is that Egyptians and Kuwaitis and Jordanians will be allowed to shout in the streets of their capitals but then they will be shut down, with the help of the tens of thousands of secret policemen and government militiamen who serve the princes and kings and elderly rulers of the Arab world.Egyptians demand that Mubarak open the Rafah crossing-point into Gaza, break off diplomatic relations with Israel, even send weapons to Hamas. And there is a kind of perverse beauty in listening to the response of the Egyptian government: why not complain about the three gates which the Israelis refuse to open? And anyway, the Rafah crossing-point is politically controlled by the four powers that produced the "road map" for peace, including Britain and the US. Why blame Mubarak? To admit that Egypt can't even open its sovereign border without permission from Washington tells you all you need to know about the powerlessness of the satraps that run the Middle East for us.Open the Rafah gate or break off relations with Israel and Egypt's economic foundations crumble. Any Arab leader who took that kind of step will find that the West's economic and military support is withdrawn. Without subventions, Egypt is bankrupt. Of course, it works both ways. Individual Arab leaders are no longer going to make emotional gestures for anyone. When Sadat flew to Jerusalem "I am tired of the dwarves," he said of his fellow Arab leaders he paid the price with his own blood at the Cairo reviewing-stand where one of his own soldiers called him a "Pharaoh" before shooting him dead. The true disgrace of Egypt, however, is not in its response to the slaughter in Gaza. It is the corruption that has become embedded in an Egyptian society where the idea of service health, education, genuine security for ordinary people has simply ceased to exist. It's a land where the first duty of the police is to protect the regime, where protesters are beaten up by the security police, where young women objecting to Mubarak's endless regime likely to be passed on caliph-like to his son Gamal, whatever we may be told are sexually molested by plain-clothes agents, where prisoners in the Tora-Tora complex are forced to rape each other by their guards. There has developed in Egypt a kind of religious facade in which the meaning of Islam has become effaced by its physical representation. Egyptian civil "servants" and government officials are often scrupulous in their religious observances yet they tolerate and connive in rigged elections, violations of the law and prison torture. A young American doctor described to me recently how in a Cairo hospital busy doctors merely blocked doors with plastic chairs to prevent access to patients. In November, the Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry al-Youm reported how doctors abandoned their patients to attend prayers during Ramadan. And amid all this, Egyptians have to live amid daily slaughter by their own shabby infrastructure. Alaa al-Aswani wrote eloquently in the Cairo paper Al-Dastour that the regime's "martyrs" outnumber all the dead of Egypt's wars against Israel victims of railway accidents, ferry sinkings, the collapse of city buildings, sickness, cancers and pesticide poisonings all victims, as Aswani says, "of the corruption and abuse of power". Opening the Rafah border-crossing for wounded Palestinians the Palestinian medical staff being pushed back into their Gaza prison once the bloodied survivors of air raids have been dumped on Egyptian territory is not going to change the midden in which Egyptians themselves live.Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, the Hizbollah secretary general in Lebanon, felt able to call on Egyptians to "rise in their millions" to open the border with Gaza, but they will not do so. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the feeble Egyptian Foreign Minister, could only taunt the Hizbollah leaders by accusing them of trying to provoke "an anarchy similar to the one they created in their own country."But he is well-protected. So is President Mubarak.Egypt's malaise is in many ways as dark as that of the Palestinians. Its impotence in the face of Gaza's suffering is a symbol of its own political sickness.

Praying in defiance of Israel's war in Gaza - 09 Jan 09
Fri, 09 Jan 2009 13:03:21 -0800 by ArchivesAlgeriennes

???? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???? ?? ???? ????? ????????More than a dozen mosques have been hit in the course of Israel's war on Gaza. But two weeks into the war, Muslim worshippers have not been deterred by the destruction, or the risks of going to pray at what could be a potential target."The status quo has failed. The American policy toward Israel and Palestine has done nothing except prolong the suffering of the Palestinian people and enable the Israelis to keep an iron grip on the West Bank while at the same time sealing off Gaza and its 1.5 million people."We desperately need a new American approach that is unbiased and gives equal consideration to both sides."Aviva Cantor of New York City summarized the Israeli and Gaza dark days of war succinctly in the Times on January 4:"The tragedy is that the international community did not accurately analyze the situation and push effectively for the renewal of the cease fire -- and include in its enforcement provisions."This is what it must do before the war escalates to the point where a truce will be impossible to negotiate and enforce -- with disastrous international consequences."Christ ian D. Van Dyck of Gardiner, Maine, in his January 4 letter stated his viewpoint on the relentlessly raging conflict:"For the last several decades, the Israeli government has used disproportionate force against Palestinians and encroached further and further into their territories, yet America remains silent."For too long America has been a bad friend of Israel. It is a sad fact that those in America who have voiced criticism of Israel have been largely muted by the American media, or worse branded as anti-Semitic."Israel and America are becoming further isolated from the rest of the world.""Israel's attacks in the Gaza Strip will only beget further hatred in the region. It is time for America to be a true friend of Israel."Ben Kreilkamp of Minneapolis shared his viewpoint on the Israeli and Gaza war in the Times on January 5:"Regarding `In Israel, Bloomberg shows his support.'"Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York City is quoted as saying, 'I think I speak for an awful lot of Americans, who think that Israel is doing the right thing in defending Israel"There are few who would argue with that statement as it stands."Israel indeed is entirely justified in defending itself. What is at question is the way Israel is defending itself. What possible good will come of laying siege to a population, reducing it to hopelessness, radicalizing generations of its youth, fulfilling the most frightful image in its own most fearful mirror, and trying to bomb it into submission?"Clearly, Israel's policies fit hand in glove with those in Hamas. That is in fact the way war works, and it is increasingly clear that war is not the answer."We can't afford it, it does no good, it leads to more war, it is a helpless and fearful response to helplessness and fear."With the past 8 horrifying years of the Bush reign of error and the terror of the Iraq War is the last thing the U.S. needed to cope with. One might hope the U.S. would at the very least call for cessation of hostilities and appeal to diplomacy and negotiate to stop the horrifying death scenes of civilians -- men, women and children caught in the crossfire of what is nearing a massacre. But Bush remains silentAs for his legacy, both George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush declare future historians will credit Bush with a positive assessment of his White House years of residency. However, many millions throughout the world are aghast at what the unneeded Iraq War has accomplished with its death toll, destruction and debt. And now with the U.S. economy sinking into the abyss of over a $10 trillion debt, and men of great wealth committing suicide now that their corruption is being uncovered in colossal investment scandals, two interrelated questions must be asked: What on earth will happen next in the bankrupt U.S.A.?How much more must the U.S. borrow from China, Saudi Arabia and Japan to keep two wars going and U.S. credit from collapsing completely?

MARINES ADMIT SECURITY FORCE TO OPERATE INSIDE U.S.
Fri, 09 Jan 2009 11:14:51 -0800 by bill122460

Thursday, January 8, 2009Following Northcoms denial that U.S. Army combat teams would be used to deal with civil unrest after the announcement that thousands of active duty military personnel were being moved inside the United States, an Army.com report now concedes that more than 400 Marines assigned to one unit includes a security force that would operate within the homeland.A September 8 Army Times report stated that active duty troops from the 3rd Infantry Divisions 1st Brigade Combat Team returning from Iraq would be on call as a federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks, for a period of 12 months from October 1st.This preceded a December 1 Washington Post article which reported on plans to station 20,000 more U.S. troops inside America for purposes of domestic security from September 2011.According to the Army Times article, their duties would include dealing with civil unrest and crowd control. This admission was later denied by Northcoms operations division chief Army Col. Michael Boatner, who told Homeland Security Today, This response force will not be called upon to help with law enforcement, civil disturbance or crowd control, but will be used to support lead agencies involved in saving lives, relieving suffering and meeting the needs of communities affected by weapons of mass destruction attacks, accidents or even natural disasters. However, a January 7 American Forces Press Service story posted on Army.com confirms that at least some units operating inside the U.S. will rely on a security force to provide protection for troops responding to a mass casualty event in America.Marines assigned to the Chemical, Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) operating out of the Naval Support Facility in Indian Head, Maryland are tasked by the Defense Department with responding to disasters that require federal assistance, according to the article, a job that mandates the squads weapons were replaced with metal pry bars, Kevlar helmets with construction hard-hats, and combat uniforms with coveralls. The commandant of the Marine Corps set in place the guidelines for designing a highly trained and specialized unit designed to respond to such a threat in the event that state and local authorities need Defense Department assistance, we read. The 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force led the operational efforts of the unit until October 2008 when, in a historic move, the U.S. Northern Command pulled into its ranks nearly 5,000 active-duty forces designated to respond to homeland emergencies. Now, the CBIRF is associated administratively with the 2nd MEF, but can tap into the extensive medical, aviation, transportation and logistical support of the other units within Northcoms response force.Although Marine Col. John M. Pollock states, Security for our forces operating within the homeland is a law-enforcement issue, and I would much rather leverage local and state law enforcement to provide that security, the article does reveal that a security force tasked with protecting Marines during their duties is a component of the unit. The unit has specialists in bomb disposal, technical rescue decontamination, chemical identification and detection, medical and casualty extraction. It also has a security force, states the article.Pollock also stated that the unit was in position at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota, an open violation of Posse Comitatus, the law that restricts the military from undertaking law enforcement operations except in times of declared national emergency.Just who do the Marines need protecting from if all they will be doing is aiding rescue efforts and saving peoples lives? The only conceivable scenario in which Marines would need other Marines to protect them in a law enforcement guise would be if the tasks they were undertaking were highly unpopular and risked reprisals from the general public. The fact that the original Army Times report of September 8 let slip that Marines would have access to non-lethal weapons to be used domestically, a revelation that was later retracted after it stoked media controversy, perhaps offers a not too subtle hint about what the real mission of the Marines will be in anticipation of a total economic collapse or the dreaded mass casualty terror attack that is constantly being hyped by the establishment and the corporate media.http://www.pri sonplanet.com/marine s-admit-security-for ce-to-operate-inside -us.htmlhttp://www.y outube.com/watch?v=b 6z80LtgsEU

Syracuse Carpenter, I May Lose It All
Fri, 09 Jan 2009 07:57:08 -0800 by voc370

Empire State Carpenters Union Syracuse union's loss could reach $150MFriday, January 09, 2009 By Charley HannaganStaff writerCNBC, quoting an unnamed source, Thursday reported a carpenters' union in Syracuse has lost the majority of its $100 million to $150 million in pension money because of investments with Bernard L. Madoff. An anonymous caller to The Post-Standard last week made the same claim, but it could not be independently confirmed. Officials from the New York State AFL-CIO said they heard eight unions in the Syracuse area had money invested with Madoff. So far, the United Association of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 267 in Syracuse, United Union of Roofers Waterproofers & Allied Workers Local 195 in Cicero, Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 73 in Oswego and the Empire State Carpenters Fringe Benefit Funds have told members that they lost money in Madoff investments. J.P. Jeanneret Associates, a Syracuse money management firm, in December said it had money invested with Madoff. According to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Jeanneret had $946 million under management for 92 accounts. More than 75 percent of the firm's clients are pension and profit-sharing plans, while up to 10 percent in each category are clients who are individuals and high-net-worth individuals, the documents said. Local unions and Jeanneret have told The Post-Standard that they are trying to figure out the extent of their losses. Madoff was arrested Dec. 11 after he confessed to his two sons that his investments were actually a $50 billion pyramid scheme. In such schemes, money from later investors is used to pay returns to those who invested first. The list of those who've lost money in the scheme includes the wealthy, entertainers, charities and universities. Madoff is under house arrest in New York, and his company, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, is in bankruptcy.
