Ayer tuvo que cancelar 41 trayectos. Horas antes de que Iberia y el SEPLA se vuelvan a reunir hoy para negociar el convenio, la compañía aérea ha comunicado a diez de sus pilotos la apertura de expedientes por su "negligente comportamiento". Hay otros 30 expedientes abiertos en los que Iberia establecerá las sanciones que considere convenientes. Poeta del dolor y la angustia de la urbe moderna, con un metiér único para lo nefasto (su foto verité augura el neorealismo italiano), Weegee intimaba la podredumbre de la manzana. Imagino a The famous Wegee (como él firmaba en las fotos) manejando para arriba y para abajo, en su Chevy destartalado equipado con radio transmisor. A medianoche, ya Wegee era punto fijo en las oficinas del Daily News o el Post, negativo en mano, a $5 la foto. Weegee es Arthur Fellig (1899-1968), nacido en Ucrania, de padres judíos. Un pionero, aunque no en el sentido parapazzi (no lo concibo loco por tirarle una foto a Paris Hilton). Por lo general las celebridades de Weegee aparecen bien muertas (como en esas fotos suyas de mafiosos boca arriba, con barrigones protuberantes salidos por debajo de la camisa, en medio de un charco de sangre). Una foto de Weegee puede coagular el mejor párrafo de un Hammett, o la mejor secuencia en un Dassin. Nadie como él para mostrar el bajo mundo, golpe de flash a boca de jarro con la cámara en apertura f16, 1/200 de segundo: Notorio inventario de víctimas ensangrentadas, edificios en llamas, borrachos desahuciados, niños hacinados en un tugurio, el enano grotesco del Bowery en calzoncillos (perfiles que Arbus luego imitaría), o esas grandes damas gordas que salen del Metropolitan (embutidas en tiaras y anillos) a recibir la noche.
