Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex part 5 of 6Wed, 07 Jan 2009 03:05:37 -0800 by chaukarWatch in HD:.....Ubuntu 8.10 code name "Intrepid Ibex"This video is about my Ubuntu desktop. I just wanted to show you why I love this GNU/Linux distribution so much. A while ago I made one of my Windows Vista desktop http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=RgXtn5hNj aA Now Youtube has a new widescreen player and support for High Definition streaming( = beta, add &fmt=22 to the end of the URL), so it's time to upload a new movie. This video is not only eye candy! I'll show you some cool programs and games for the Linux platform. You are free to modify, copy, share and redistribute this movie (except the music). Because I do not own the music! I captured my Ubuntu desktop in GTK Record My Desktop. I had to convert the .ogv files to h.264 mp4 with Allok mpeg4 converter in order to edit them in my favorite video editing tool! I wanted to edit my movie clips in Corel Video Studio X2, but I had some problems to import the files. Actually it didn't load the full movie clip, so I switched to Microsoft Windows Moviemaker.Windows Moviemaker sucks! When I was saving my movie, it stuck at 99%. I tried again, but it stuck again and again and again. Guess this issue has something to do with the installed codecs. Then I tried Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate. OK I managed to publish my movie 1280x720 in a mp4 container with the so called High definition. But when I checked the codec of the video in Quicktime and that was not a h.264codec! WTF Pinnacles mp4 High Definition is not h.264! The quality was good but it could be better.I also used a program called Yamb to join and split multiple h.264 mpeg4 video clips. The software works great! No conversion! It took almost four hours to save this movie(Pinnacle)! That's a very long time! HP pavillion 1080ed a centrino2 notebookP8400 CPU 2,26 GHz4GB DDR2-SODIMM9600 mGT5400 Western Digital disk... I know this is slowYou may wonder why I didn't use Free- or Open source video editors for Linux. That's because most of these programs will save your movie in some weird codecs and containers. For example ogg, ogv, ogm, mkv....I don't think that Youtube will accept these files. And we all know that less conversion will result in a higher quality movie. Soon I'll publish a HD 1080p version with 5.1 sound....probably a .wmvDownload the full movie in 1080p here: Sorry not yet available Related: ubuntu linux gnu "compiz fusion" games os "eye candy" gnome anime gpl "open source" desktop adobe "intrepid ibex" kernel 8.10

3dmark-2001-vmware-workstation-6.5-directx.aviTue, 06 Jan 2009 16:49:59 -0800 by quern92478This is 3DMark 2001 running in vmware workstation 6.5 trial with directx acceleration. It is running in a windows xp professional guest that itself is running on a gentoo linux host. As you can see, I get almost 9000 Points in this benchmark. That is not very much, but remember: This was recorded via gtk-recordmydesktop, that made a almost fullscreen recording with 24fps. The whole recording needed almost 10 Gigabyte space on a fast harddisk that I recorded it into. Recording itself needed a nice amount of cpu power. When running that benchmark without recording it, it gave me 16000 Points in the end. Thats better ;-) And here the machine I used (not too expensive, I think): Mainstream Asrock Mainboard with 2 GB RAM, AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core Processor, and the Graphics Card used is a Nvidia 9600 GT. Now's the time, linux starts to be usable for gamers! DirectX Acceleration is useful this days. And VirtualBox itself offers OpenGL Support in Windows Guests. So we have both worlds united, finally on a linux platform. We will see how it evolves in the next months. I hope you had fun watching this. It remembered me of the old days, when I used 3dmark2001 on Win98SE and were upset, that my native graphics card could not render the horse in the later part of this benchmark would render with only 1 Frame per Second. If I rethink that - it is absolutely fantastic, what we can see here on the linux platform. Bye! Related: linux gentoo vmware workstation directx 3dmark 2001 in

4:3 and Stereo - Test 25 (640x480/29/9600/BF0/Stream/NCABAC/L3/MP4)Tue, 06 Jan 2009 12:33:21 -0800 by qatestdevI hope to generate &fmt=35 for 4:3 format, see the discussion at http://forum.videohe lp.com/topic336882-1 860.html#1923854 .Format 35 dont needs an 4:3 HD video (1280x960), so now trying a lower resolution (640x480, no 22!) just before switching to VirtualDub, with identical details (not so big bit rate) to http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=fTXwPEO3j oI by fascinationduo (nice PopCorn!).Just trying something different from previous tests:. MP4/AVC. 640x480. 9600Kbps. 29.970 fps . MP4/AVC. Format/Info : ISO 14496-1 Base Media. Codec profile : Baseline@L3.0. Codec settings, CABAC : No. Codec_Settings_RefFr ames : 1. Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 1.314Super uses auto GOP with H264/AVC and codec ISO 14496-1 version 2 (Base Media Version 2). Resulted Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 1.015 (one of the highest until now for me). Testing...Upload file (640x480/29/9600/BF/ Stream/NCABAC/L3/ MP4)Format : MPEG-4 Format/Info : ISO 14496-1 version 2 Format/Family : MPEG-4 File size : 13.7 MiB PlayTime : 12s 178ms Bit rate : 9442 Kbps StreamSize/String : 12.5 KiBVideoCodec : AVC Codec/Family : AVC Codec/Info : Advanced Video Codec Codec profile : Baseline@L3.0 Codec settings, CABAC : No Codec_Settings_RefFr ames : 1 PlayTime : 12s 178ms Bit rate mode : VBR Bit rate : 9341 Kbps Maximum bit rate : 9971 Kbps Width : 640 pixels Height : 480 pixels Display Aspect ratio : 4/3 Frame rate mode : CFR Frame rate : 29.970 fps Chroma : 4:2:0 Interlacement : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 1.015 StreamSize/String : 13.6 MiBAudioCodec : AAC LC Codec/Family : AAC Codec/Info : AAC Low Complexity PlayTime : 12s 97ms Bit rate mode : VBR Bit rate : 92.4 Kbps Maximum bit rate : 107 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : L R Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz Resolution : 16 bits StreamSize/String : 137 KiBNil 492 KB (previously I used Nill by mistake)5 491 KB6 1068 KB13 115 KB17 117 KB18 796 KB22 off (ok !)34 430 KB35 off (also to check later)CONCLUSIONS - I only see the following differences:. Format/Info : ISO 14496-1 version 2 vs ISO 14496-1 Base Media. Bit rate : 9442 Kbps vs 12.2 Mbps (35 works with around 2Mbps!). Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 1.015 vs 1.314 (35 works with 0.072!). Audio Bit rate : 92.4 Kbps vs 152 Kbps. Audio Maximum bit rate : 107 Kbps vs 221 KbpsSo maybe the audio bit rate that I use (96Kbps has enough quality!) is bellow that one, so just one more test at 160 Kbps before switching to VirtualDub and XviD. ---//--- Related: fmt 22 35 hq mp4 h264 level3 ffmpeg gop stream super
