| Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. B KonigstigerWed, 31 Dec 2008 02:18:51 -0800 by NewVizaarTiger II is the common name of a German heavy tank of the Second World War. The official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. B and the tank also had the ordnance inventory designation SdKfz 182. It is also known under the informal name Königstiger (German for the Bengal Tiger), often literally translated as King Tiger and by the British as Royal Tiger. The design followed the same concept as the Tiger I, but was intended to be even more formidable. The Tiger II combined the heavy armor of the Tiger I with the sloped armor of the Panther. The M4 Sherman was unable to penetrate the front even at point blank range and the M26 Pershing and IS-2 had to come within 1300 m and 200 m respectively.[1] The Tiger II weighed 68.5 (early turret) to 69.8 (production turret) metric tons, was protected by 150 to 180 mm of frontal armor, and was armed with the 88 mm KwK 43 L/71 gun. The chassis was also the basis for the Jagdtiger turretless tank destroyer. The very heavy armor and powerful long-range gun gave the Tiger II the advantage against virtually all opposing Allied and Soviet tanks. This was especially true on the Western Front, where the British and U.S. forces had almost no heavy tanks with which to oppose it.Due to its sheer size and power, the King Tiger was photographed extensively, mostly for propaganda use. | ? :: [ !! BanD of BrotherS - Crossroads - episode 5 *HD* !! | German 88mm PanzerschrekMon, 22 Dec 2008 00:49:03 -0800 by NewVizaarRaketenpanzerbüchsen ("Rocket Tank Rifle")German efforts to provide infantry with anti-tank rifle grenades proved unsatisfactory when confronted with superior Russian Tanks like the T-34. Either from the Russian front or from Africa, captured American M9A1 Bazooka examples were sent to Germany to be analyzed. Designers, being impressed with the weapon, proceeded with development of an improved version. The name, officially abbreviated RPzB, was commonly referred to as the Panzerschreck ("Tank Terror"). It was in operational use by mid-1943. Related: german 88mm panzerschrek rocket tank rifle anti tank bazooka wwii mworld war two video tv docu infantry weapon waffen | |

| 2008-on Subaru Impreza Hatchback Offset Impact Test (ANCAP)Sat, 20 Dec 2008 11:24:13 -0800 by Crashsilumator26343Vehicles tested after 1 January 2008 will require Electronic Stability Control in order to achieve a 5 star rating. This vehicle was tested prior to this date and may or may not meet this new requirement. The tested model of Subaru Impreza was launched in Australia in September 2007.Dual front airbags, side airbags and head-protecting side curtains are standard equipment. Antilock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD) and electronic stability control (ESC) are also standard. Advanced seat belt reminders are fitted to both front seats. The front seat belt buckles are mounted on the seats and the upper anchorages are adjustable. These features improve the fit of the seat belt. Pre-tensioners are fitted to the front seat belts to reduce slack in the event of a crash. A three point seat belt is fitted to the centre rear seat. This provides better protection than a two point (lap) seat belt. The Subaru Impreza scored 14.93 out of 16 in the offset crash test. The passenger compartment held its shape well. There was a slight chest of serious chest injury for the passenger and a slight risk of serious lower leg injury for the driver and passenger.Body region scores out of 4 points each: Head/neck 4 pts, chest 3.91 pts, upper legs 4 pts, lower legs 3.02 pts.The passenger compartment held its shape well in the offset crash test. The accelerator pedal moved rearwards by 88 mm and upwards 57 mm. The steering wheel hub moved forwards 34mm and upwards 5 mm. The front ("A") pillar moved 1 mm rearwards. All doors remained closed during the crash and could be opened with normal effort after the crash. The airbag cushioned the head of the driver and contact was stable. There were no knee hazards. The passenger's head was cushioned by the airbag. Related: crash test subaru impreza ancap dummies airbag safety 2009 crashlab ncap seatbelt stars offset 40 mph | |

| Zugkraftwagen SdKfz 9Thu, 18 Dec 2008 02:38:51 -0800 by NewVizaarThe heaviest of the German halftracks was the schwerer Zugkraftwagen 18t (SdKfz 9) FAMO F3. So named after its only producer (Fahrzeug und Motorenbau GmbH 'FAMO' Breslau, Oberschlesien), the primary task of these 15t behemoths was for towing tank trailers weighing up to 35 tons. Other versions included a crane vehicle and a Flak mount. Powered by a 12 cylinder Maybach HL 108 TUKRM engine, they had a loading capacity of 2.8 tons and a towing capacity of 18 tons. Crew was 8. 2000 of this version were produced. Late in the war this chassis was used for an 88mm Flak 36 anti-aircraft mount. The cab and engine compartment were armored in the same fashion as the lighter 8t SdKfz 7/2. Only a few of these later versions were completed.
