| Dimmu Borgir - The Mourning PalaceThu, 08 Jan 2009 13:45:45 -0800 by RadioGreePxDimmu Borgir started as a melodic black metal band in 1993. Formed by Shagrath, Silenoz, and Tjodalv, the band released an EP in 1994 entitled Inn i evighetens mřrke ("Into the Darkness of Eternity" in English). This short EP sold out within weeks, and the band followed up with the 1994 full length album For all tid. This album featured musical contributions by members of Dřdheimsgard and Ved Buens Ende. The initial lineup consisted of Shagrath playing guitar with Tjodalv on drums and Silenoz backing vocals, however this changed before the release of Stormblĺst (translates to "Storm Blown") on Cacophonous Records in 1996. Stormblĺst received high praise from many melodic black metal fans, and is often regarded as a highlight of the band's career. It is also the last album which features all lyrics written and sung in Norwegian. Related: dimmu borgir |

| RIT on TV News: "Cheap Science"Thu, 08 Jan 2009 13:09:17 -0800 by RITUniversityNewsRon Hira, RIT assistant professor of public policy, speak with CNN about the negative impact of the H1-B visa program on wages for American scientists. There is new evidence tonight there are enough American scientists in this country to fill job openings in science and engineering and despite industry claims to the absolute contrary. Those companies actively discourage American workers by keeping wages lower than they would otherwise be without foreign workers being imported. They keep wages low by exploiting visa rules and bringing cheap foreign workers into this country. Bill Tucker has the report. Reporter: this fact from the national science foundation highlights a serious problem. The number of foreign postdocs has increased by 52% since 1996, whereas the number of US citizen and permanent resident postdocs has grown by 9%. The conventional wisdom is that data shows a shortage of scientists and a dire need to bring in as many foreign scientists on H1-B visas as we can. Science professionals see it very differently. This person writes a monthly Column on science careers on science labor force issues. There is no shortage of people. There are thousands of people who cannot find careers as scientists after they've been through years of training.Reporter: studies from the urban institute, the Pratt school of engineering at Duke, and the Alfred P. Sloan foundation all agree, the United States produces more scientists than science jobs. Theres no shortage reflected in the pay they receive either. Ellis research services, which has been doing wage studies in the science and engineering fields for 20 years, has consistently found pay for scientists to be in line with lower than the average for all fields. Ron Hira: And at the same time what's happened is that there's been an increase in the risk to those workers, right, as careers, and at the same time, what's happened is that there's been an increase in the risk to those workers, right, as employers cut, for example, a lot of science positions are benefit, as employers start to look to move work overseas, and a lot of science positions are vulnerable to being moved overseas.Reporter: in other words, there's a disincentive for choosing a career in science. The first thing the Obama people should do is take a hard look. Ignore the pr and take a hard look at what's really going on in terms of wages and job opportunities in science today. Reporter: there are winners. A typical post-doc in their early 30s, years of school earning a Ph.D. will earn $35,000, maybe $40,000 a year in a research position. Helping keep those wages low, the fact that research institutions have unlimited access to H1-B visas. According to Ron Hira, some 60% of post docs are foreign workers here on guest worker visas.
